Late heroics from Anthony Davis and LeBron James helped the Los Angeles Lakers overcome the Washington Wizards in overtime on Thursday night, winning by the final score of 134-131.
Davis recorded his seventh straight double-double, scoring 40 points and grabbing 15 rebounds while shooting 63.6 percent from the field. He was dominant as usual on the defensive end of the floor, blocking three shots and picking up a steal.
As for James, he chipped in with 31 points of his own to go along with four rebounds and nine assists. With Los Angeles trailing by three points in overtime, James blocked Jordan Poole in transition before canning a game-tying triple on the other end of the floor.
Although the Lakers struggled to put away a Wizards team that entered the contest with a paltry 9-49 record, the two stars helped Los Angeles come away with a win. Fans were impressed with the duo.
Despite the loss, Poole thrived off the bench for Washington. The 24-year-old scored a season-high 34 points while racking up seven assists, shooting 50 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from three.
After James’ 31-point performance, he’s currently nine points away from becoming the first player to score 40,000 points in NBA history. His next opportunity to meet the historic total will come on Saturday against the Denver Nuggets.
