Philadelphia Eagles fans don’t have to worry about defensive coordinator Vic Fangio being distracted by potential head-coaching opportunities as he and the team prepare for the playoffs.
“No, I’m happy to be here right now,” he told reporters Tuesday when asked if he wants to become a head coach again in the future.
The nature of the NFL calendar means sometimes coordinators of playoff teams are juggling preparing for the postseason with their own job prospects. For example, Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn are two of the names generating the most buzz in the ongoing coaching cycle, but their team is also the NFC’s No. 1 seed.
It seems like Fangio won’t be doing any of that juggling.
The veteran coach has been a defensive coordinator for much of his career, but he does have head coaching experience. He led the Denver Broncos from 2019 through 2021 and went 19-30 overall with three straight losing records.
Fangio has found much more success as a defensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers, Indianapolis Colts, Houston Texans, San Francisco 49ers, Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins and Eagles throughout his career.

Fangio is in his first season with Philadelphia, and his defense finished first in the league in yards allowed and second in the league in points allowed. The unit was a primary reason the Eagles went 14-3 and won the NFC East and surely would have caught the attention of teams looking for head coaches.
Alas, he is more interested in chasing a Lombardi Trophy with the NFC East team, and the playoff journey starts Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.
