Ever since Danielson joined AEW in 2021, he and Kingston have made it clear that they aren’t fond of each other, but that hasn’t stopped them from doing battle in some classic encounters.
Most notably, Danielson and Kingston were both part of the Blue League in the inaugural AEW Continental Classic, which resulted in them facing off twice.
Danielson won the first meeting, which helped him finish with the most points in the Blue League, but Kingston was just behind him, leading to a rematch for a spot in the final.
Kingston, who put the ROH World Championship and NJPW Strong Openweight Championship on the line as part of the tournament, got revenge by outlasting Danielson on the Dec. 27 New Year’s Smash edition of Dynamite to reach the final.
With that, Kingston moved on to face Jon Moxley at Worlds End, and he won the match to retain the ROH world title and NJPW Strong openweight title, while also becoming the inaugural continental champion.
Danielson and Kingston rekindled their rivalry in the weeks that followed, and Danielson seemingly took advantage of every opportunity he could to disrespect Kingston along the way.
Kingston agreed to put the Continental Crown Championship on the line against Danielson at Revolution, but with the added stipulation that Danielson would have to shake his hand in the event of a loss.
That added some extra juice to the match due to Danielson’s extreme dislike for Kingston and the fact that shaking his hand would add significant insult to injury.
It is unclear if Kingston truly earned Danielson’s respect Sunday, but he did manage to retain and get one over on one of his greatest rivals once again.
